I’m typing this as fast as my little fingers possibly can!
Hopefully it’s out early enough if someone out there needs a movie-night idea. So….
Here is yet another Man-happy date night. Why??? Because my husband had to watch two “girl movies” one after the other; they were “My Fair Lady (he loved it)” and “The King and I (he loved it AND he cried).” But to rid our house a bit of the excess estrogen (and because he’s loves anything to do with the wilderness) we are watching…. “Lost in the Barrens”
It’s the story of a white prep school orphan who is sent to live with his uncle in the Canadian wilderness, where he then (I’m guessing) gets lost in the Pine Barrens with a Cree boy. We’re in the middle of watching it and it is really good. We’re watching the old school 1990s made-for-TV version but there is a new version, available here.

It’s a DVD, not an instant rental
I want to do a new “segment” (heh heh) where I do Dinner + Movie for those strapped for time but wanting to add some romance to their lives.
For this dinner, I think you need something inspired by the Canadian Wilderness.
Crispy Salmon, Baked Fingerling potatoes, steamed broccoli
Super quick recipe: get salmon, rinse, salt & pepper, slather with mayo, bake for 40 min at 350
(it comes out with more of a meat texture, not a flaky fish texture; my husband doesn’t like fish)
Super quick recipe:get tiny potatoes, wash, toss in bowl w/ olive oil, salt, pepper, bake in pan on 350 for 30 min until done. Check often.
A sweet and stout cider
Try: Angry Orchard hard cider
Vanilla ice cream and Fruit hand pie
Pie recipe: Here
(or buy a pie if you’re in a pinch)
Oh and for all the Marrieds out there:
(Hey, if you’re single you should probably high tail it out of here, or at least read through your fingers for modesty’s sake):
Hey! No where does this say “kiddie blog” or “PG blog” this is a PARENT blog. If you are a parent, then you have children, and we all (hopefully) know children don’t come from magical vegetable patches but (usually) from some form of bow chicka wow wow, somewhere, by someone (you know, sex).
Since I couldn’t find any reasonably priced fur bikinis to fit the theme, how about you and your hubby cuddle up on or under one of these:

(I also like the fur throws at Pottery Barn)
Since My husband and I watched this movie last week I’ve got to hurry and get off the computer and choose our late-night, Date-night movie 😉 I’m thinking historical romance. I think he’s wanting another wilderness flick. Gotta run 😉
