I WAS preparing to upload a totally different post, but IN that post I referenced Led Zeppelin.
And then I realized…some people might not know who Led Zeppelin is.
I know, right? Travesty.
That’s why looking at different genres of music, different cultures and time periods is so cool…you get to see the world, through Music.
Listen to this:
That song was AWESOME, am I right? And at 2 minutes 12 seconds, things got real. Now what I WISH is that you could have a record of this song and listen to is that way, because records are awesome (No, I didn’t grow up listening to records, but remember a few posts back when I revealed that I was a hipster, yeah, records are totally making a comeback in cool, vintage circles).
Led Zeppelin is cool because: YES, they are singers and musicians, but they also seem to have some sort of mystical, esoteric knowledge that’s imparted through song. I’m not kidding. As if through one flip of Robert Plant’s glorious golden locks, you’ll be blasted into some sort of all-knowing rock hippie nirvana.
(This is Robert Plant, of Led Zeppelin)
Like seriously. I KNOW it sounds trippy, but Led Zeppelin’s music is…moving.
Now, if you’ve never listened to Rock music, it might sound a little…”different.” But it doesn’t take a genius to recognize genius, know what I mean?
Even if you’ve *never* listened to an opera before, if you were to hear the best opera singer in the world belt out some operatic amazingness, you would be moved. You wouldn’t be able to help it, because music calls to the deepest and purest part of us that is above language, above culture, above the self.
(See how I’m talking all prophetic and cool? It’s the Zeppelin man. I’m rocking out to them at this very moment! Kashmir man. “ooooooo yeaa yea, ooooooo yeaa yea narmb blarmmmmmm”
You’ll know what I mean, when you listen.
All kidding aside, they are awesome.
This is actually my favorite song of all time. Look up the lyrics. It’s awesome.
Then think about The Lord of the Rings. And then cry because of the awesomeness that you just witnessed.
“Ramble on! Sing my song! On my way!”
“Years ago in days of old when magic filled the air”
That guitar (2:25)! Yes! This song is awesomeness turned into wine and drunk on an adventurous sunlit day.
